Witchcraft

Marnie Stonebrook on True Blood.

Witchcraft, in historical, anthropological, religious, and mythological contexts, is the use of alleged supernatural or magical powers or spells. A witch (from Old English wicca masculine, wicce feminine) is a practitioner of witchcraft. Historically, it was widely believed in early modern Christian Europe that witches were in league with the Devil and used their powers to harm people and property. Particularly, since the mid-20th century, "bad" and "good" witchcraft are sometimes distinguished, the latter often involving healing. The concept of witchcraft as harmful is normally treated as a cultural ideology, a means of explaining human misfortune by blaming it either on a supernatural entity or a known person in the community. Sonic projection is a super-power which involves the concentrated projection of sound waves for the purpose of offensive attack. This ability has appeared in various media, mostly in comic book/superhero fantasy as well as sci-fi related animated fare. There are also a plethora of fictional technological devices that can perform similar functions.

In the internal continuity of DC Comics, the character of Dinah Laurel Lance, aka the Black Canary possesses a sonic attack that she calls her Canary Cry. By vibrating her vocal chords with significant intensity, Black Canary can emit a wave of sonic energy strong enough to rupture steel. Laurel Lance from the CW Network television series Arrow wears a specially designed choker, which allows her to emit waves of sonic energy. The choker was designed by Cisco Ramon of S.T.A.R. Labs, and it is he who dubbed it, "The Canary Cry".

A powerful foe of Superman named Silver Banshee possesses a sonic attack known as the Death Wail. The Death Wail works similarly to that of Dinah Lance's Canary Cry. Another version of Silver Banshee, Siobhan Smythe, who appeared on the CBS series Supergirl, possesses this same ability.
