Vulcans

Vulcans are an alien race featured in the Star Trek film and television franchise. One of the better known races from the mythos, Vulcans have appeared in one form or another in every permutation of the franchise including all five live-action television programs, the Star Trek animated television series, the Star Trek feature films and numerous novels, video games and comic books. The Vulcans made their first appearance in the season two episode of the original Star Trek television series, Amok Time".

Description[]

Vulcans are a race of humanoid aliens who hail from the planet Vulcan in the 40 Eridani star system. They are believed to be one of the earliest races to achieve interplanetary travel. They have two noticeable physical characteristics that distinguish them from Earth humans; their pointed ears and arched upswept eyebrows. Vulcans are intellectuals by nature, embracing the tenants of logic over that of raw emotion. This is not to suggest that Vulcans are incapable of feeling emotion as some might believe, but rather, they have elected to supress their baser, more emotive instincts through various meditative techniques that have been handed down over many generations.

Sub-groups[]

A pre-industrial proto-variant of the Vulcans are the Mintakens of Mintaka III. Representatives of this group include Liko and Nuria. [1]

Notes & Trivia[]

  • Spock is commonly mistaken for a Vulcan due to his physical appearance and his adherence to Vulcan traditions. In truth, he is only half-Vulcan. His mother was an Earth human named Amanda Grayson.
