Notes & Trivia[]

  • Ultraman was created by Eiji Tsuburaya. It began as a live-action television series in 1966 by Tsuburaya Productions and aired on the Tokyo Broadcasting System from July 17th, 1966 to April 9th, 1967, spanning a total of thirty-nine episodes. The property has since spun-out into numerous follow-up programs, feature films, comic books and manga.
  • This is the first appearance and death of the daikaiju known as Jirass, also spelled as "Jirahs".
  • Jirass is very clearly a repurposed Godzilla costume with a ruffed fin attached to the neck and some custom coloring. Additionally, he possesses his own breath weapon like Godzilla, though it has a different visual effect. Actor Haruo Nakajima, who portrayed Godzilla during the first twelve installments of the Shōwa period also played Jirass in this episode. Jirass' roar bears some minor vocalization similarities to Godzilla's patented roar.
  • The head of the Jirass costume was taken from the costume used in Invasion of Astro-Monster. The body suit was recycled from the one used in Mothra vs. Godzilla.
