Notes & Trivia[]
- Based on the unpublished novel The Kolchak Papers by Jeff Rice.
- The film received a sequel in 1973 called The Night Strangler as well as spun out into a television series called Kolchak: The Night Stalker. The concept was re-imagined in 2005 in the short-lived television series The Night Stalker starring Queen of the Damned actor Stuart Townsend in the role of Carl Kolchak.
- Max Hodge is uncredited as a screenwriter on this film.
- Producer Dan Curtis is best known for creating the 1960s gothic soap opera Dark Shadows, which featured all manner of supernatural creatures including vampires, werewolves, witches and most importantly... ghosts. Composer Robert Cobert also scored the theme songs used in Dark Shadows.
- The name Janos Skorzeny was also used in the short-lived 1980s TV series Werewolf. Janos Skorzeny, played by Chuck Connors, was the lead werewolf responsible for passing the curse along to Ted Nichols, and by extension, the main character Eric Cord.
