"In My Protection" is the second episode of season one of the British period drama Ripper Street. It was directed by Tom Shankland and written by Richard Warlow. It first aired on BBC One in the UK on Sunday, January 6th, 2013 and on BBC America in the United States on Saturday, January 26th, 2013. In this episode, Inspectors Edmund Reid and Bennet Drake investigate the gruesome murder of a toymaker named Ernest Manby, who is found beaten to death with his tongue cut out. The Whitechapel Vigilance Committee take matters into their own hands and the trail leads to a street urchin named Thomas Gower.
