Ripper Street is a British period drama produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation and Element Pictures and began airing on BBC One and BBC America in December, 2012. The show was created by Richard Warlow and stars Matthew Macfadyen, Jerome Flynn, Adam Rothenberg, David Wilmot, Jonathan Barnwell and MyAnna Buring. The setting is the East End of London during the late 19th century in the wake of the infamous Jack the Ripper murders. Detective Inspectors Edmund Reid and Bennet Drake are charged with keeping the peace in the seedy district of Whitechapel as the community is still reeling in the throes of the recent brutal slayings. Aided by an American surgeon with a mysterious past named Captain Homer Jackson, the detectives of H Division investigate a new string of murders, which or may or may not have ties to the Ripper.
