New Tricks is a British crime-drama television programme created and controlled by the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation).
It follows the work of the fictional Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad (UCOS) of the Metropolitan Police Service. Originally led by Detective Superintendent Sandra Pullman, and later Detective Chief Inspector Sasha Miller, it is made up of retired police officers who have been recruited to reinvestigate unsolved crimes. The series title is taken from the proverb "You can't teach an old dog new tricks".
It first aired on 27th March 2003 and has continued to air every year since.
- In 2012, James Bolam retired from his role as Jack Halford - he was replaced by Denis Lawson, who played Steve McAndrew.
- In 2013, Alun Armstrong retired from his role as Brian Lane - he was replaced by Nicholas Lyndhurst, who played Dan Griffin.
- Also in 2013, Amanda Redman retired from her lead role as Sandra Pullman - she was replaced by Tamzin Outhwaite, who played Sasha Miller.
- In 2015, Dennis Waterman will retire from his role as Gerry Standing - he will be replaced by Larry Lamb, who will play Ted Case.
