Lyon Chaim Green, better known by his professional name, Lorne Greene, was a Canadian television actor born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on February 12th, 1915. A cross-generational actor, he is best known for two roles. He played Sheriff Ben Cartwright on the Western series Bonanza, appearing in all 429 episodes and he became a recognizable face amongst sci-fi fans during the 1970s for his portrayal of the deep-voiced Commander Adama on Battlestar Galactica.
Lorne Greene passed away on September 11th, 1987 in Santa Monica, California as a result of pneumonia following heart surgery. He was 72-years-old.
