Kathleen Joan Toelle Reichs is an American forensic anthropologist and crime writer. She was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1950 and is known not only for her academic achievements, but also for being the driving influence behind the FOX Network television series Bones. The semi-titular protagonist from the series, Temperance "Bones" Brennan is loosely based on not only Reichs herself, but also the central figure from Reichs' crime novels. Kathy Reichs also serves as producer on the series.

  • On Bones, Temperance Brennan is a successful crime writer herself. Like Reichs, she writes novels based on her work in the field of forensic anthropology. The main character from her novels is named Kathy Reichs.
  • Kathy Reichs is one of only fifty forensic anthropologists certified by the American Board of Forensic Anthropology and is on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.
  • Kathy Reichs made a guest appearance on the season two episode of Bones entitled "Judas on a Pole" where she played a character named Professor Constance Wright. The episode was directed by The X-Files star David Duchovny.
