Jonathan Hardy is a film and television actor born in Wellington, New Zealand on September 20th, 1940.

Jonathan's first credited television work was the "There Is No Duncan" episode of the 1970s TV series Mandog where he played a character named Harmar. In 1976 he played Paddy Kelleher in the series Power Without Glory and also appeared in episodes of Andra playing a character named Shenlyn. In 1977 Jonathan appeared in the television movie The Trial of Ned Kelly but also played Benny Allman in "The Hydra" episode of Bluey. That same year he played Colonel Flynn in an episode of Young Ramsay entitled "Story of a Shaggy Dog".

Jonathan's first role in a science fiction feature was the 1979 George Miller apocalyptic action movie Mad Max where he played a character named Labatouche. From 1980-1981, Jonathan played two different roles in episodes of the drama series Prisoner. He played a character named Mister Potter and another character named Waller. Throughout the remainder of the 1980s, Jonathan Hardy made single-spot appearances in various TV shows and movies including episodes of The Flying Doctors, Mission: Impossible, Family and Friends and A Country Practice.

From 1999 to 2003, Jonathan provided the voice for the cantankerous Hynerian alien Rygel XVI on the US/Australian sci-fi series Farscape. Though his character appeared in nearly every episode, he was not one of the billed cast members of the series, and in some cases, was not credited at all. Jonathan reprised the role of Rygel for the 2004 sequel miniseries Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars.

  • Coincidentally, Jonathan's Farscape co-star Virginia Hey appeared in the 1981 sequel to Mad Max called The Road Warrior.
  • On Farscape, elements of Rygel's facial features were modeled after Hardy, most notably the actor's distinctive eyebrows.
