Hynerians |
Hynerians are a fictional alien race featured in the 1999-2003 science fiction television series Farscape. They first appeared in the series premiere episode and are represented by the character of Rygel XVI, a puppet character created by Jim Henson's Creature Workshop and voiced by actor Jonathan Hardy. Little is revealed about Hynerian culture throughout the series despite the fact that Rygel appears in every episode, but through him, small glimpses of their customs and ways are presented throughout the show's four-season run. Another Hynerian of note is Bishan, Rygel's cousin, who is referenced several times throughout the series, but does not appear until the 2004 miniseries Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars. The Hynerian home world is presented in the comic book spin-off projects.
Hynerians are short, tubby amphibious creatures that hail from the planet Hyneria in the Hynerian Empire. The highest authoritative title in Hynerian government is that of Dominar, which is equitible to the title of Emperor in other cultures.
One of the more memorable elements of Hynerian biology is the fact that they fart helium.
