Hannibal is an American network television series, which adapts characters originally created by author Thomas Harris in his "Hannibal Lecter" book series. Although it shares many common elements with both the books and the film adaptations thereof, it is its own self-contained continuity and not a spin-off. The series premiered on NBC on April 4th, 2013 with an initial thirteen-episode season. The show was renewed for a second season, which began airing on February 28th, 2014. The program stars Hugh Dancy as FBI criminal profiler Will Graham, who must coordinate his investigative efforts into the minds of wanted serial killers with a little bit of help from his department-appointed psychiatrist, Doctor Hannibal Lecter (played by Mads Mikkelsen). The series also stars Caroline Dhavernas as Alana "Al" Bloom, Hettienne Park as Beverly Katz and Laurence Fishburne as Jack Crawford.
