Gilligan's Island American television series of the situation comedy genre. It was produced by United Artists Television and aired on CBS for three seasons from 1964 to 1967 , spanning a total of ninety-eight episodes. Following its cancellation, the show was acquired by NBC , who produced three television movie spin-offs.
The series starred Bob Denver in the eponymous role of Gilligan, Alan Hale, Jr. as the Skipper, Jim Backus as millionaire Thurston Howell, III, Natalie Schafer as his wife Mrs. "Lovey" Howell, Tina Louise as movie star Ginger, Russell Johnson as the Professor, and Dawn Wells as Mary Ann.
The premise of the show involved the Skipper of a small tour boat and his "little buddy" Gilligan, who bring five passengers aboard the S.S. Minnow for a three-hour tour. The boat hit turbulent waters and was thrown off course, shipwrecking itself on the shore of a tropical island. These seven stranded castaways then had to eke out a new life for themselves on the island, while always searching for a way to hopefully, one day get home.
