Directors represent the overall management of a single episode or series of episodes. They are usually assigned to a series by a show's producers or network staff and have the job of directing the actors on how to perform their scenes on set or location. Directors also coordinate with the other production crew staff on an episode, including assistant, or second unit directors, production managers, camera operators and editors. Many directors on a show are also members of the program's production crew and also work as producers, supervising producers or associate producers. In the past twenty years, it has become common for actors to try their hand at directing as well. We blame Ron Howard. Damn that Opie Cunningham!
