Crime dramas are a subgenre of the drama and mystery genres, focusing primarily on the efforts of law enforcement agencies, and the individuals they employ as they investigate and solve crimes. Crime dramas are also referred to as crime procedurals. Most programs of this subgenre involve either a central figure or an ensemble cast who are members of a city police department, the Federal government, the US Marshal service or a Forensics team. Two of the more popular crime procedurals of the modern era are the Law & Order and CSI family of titles.
