"Secret's Safe with Me" is the third episode of season five of the American crime drama/mystery series Castle and the eighty-third episode of the series overall. It was directed by Rob Hardy and written by Terence Paul Winter. It first aired on ABC on Monday, October 8th, 2012.

In this episode, Detective Ryan's past comes back to haunt him as the team discovers that he was once an undercover agent investigating the Irish mob out on Staten Island. Now Ryan must resume his old alias of Fenton O'Connell in order to steal a ledger from the group's old leader, Bobby S. An old flame from Ryan's "Fenton" days named Siobhan O'Doul is an FBI informant and is a key witness in implicating Bobby S. with the murder of a Brooklyn business owner known as "Jimmy the Baker".

Meanwhile, Beckett overhears Castle moaning the name "Jordan" in his sleep and becomes concerned. She presses him on the matter, but Castle remains close-lipped, assuring her that Jordan is not another woman.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • Captain Gates does not appear in this episode.
  • This is the eighth episode of Castle written by Terence Paul Winter and his third episode from season five. He previously wrote "Significant Others".
  • This is the fifth appearance of Jenny Ryan on Castle. She previously appeared in "Til Death Do Us Part". Actress Juliana Dever is married to her on-screen husband, Seamus Dever in real life.

Character development[]

  • The secret behind "Jordan" is that it is the name of a defunct automotive company that Castle once submitted a report on in school. The controversy behind it stems from the fact that Castle paid another student $250 to write the report for him and he received an A. He felt so guilty over his fraudulent work that he devoted himself to becoming the best writer he could possibly be.
  • Kevin Ryan once worked undercover to infiltrate the Irish mob. This was prior to him becoming a homicide detective. Castle, Beckett, Esposito and even his own wife learn about this for the first time in this episode.
  • The end of the episode reveals that after months of trying, Jenny Ryan is now pregnant with Kevin's child.
