Carolyn Stoddard is one of the main characters featured on the 1966-1971 daytime Gothic soap opera Dark Shadows. She was played by actress Nancy Barrett and introduced in episode 2 of the show.

Biography

Early life

When she was ten-years old, Carolyn dreamed that a white knight would come along and rescue her from the "dungeon" of Collinwood. (DS 2)

• The character of Carolyn Stoddard was created by director Lela Swift and writer/story developer Art Wallace based on concepts originally developed by Dan Curtis.

• In the 1991 Dark Shadows revival series, the role of Carolyn Stoddard was played by actress Barbara Blackburn. In the uncompleted 2005 television movie remake of Dark Shadows, Carolyn was played by Jessica Chastain. In the 2012 Dark Shadows feature film, the role of Carolyn Stoddard is played by Chloë Grace Moretz.

• Actress Nancy Barrett was married to Dark Shadows co-star David Ford from 1967 to 1968.

• Nancy Barrett also played the role of Doctor Faith Coleridge (#2) on the daytime soap opera Ryan's Hope. Fellow Dark Shadows co-workers Robert Costello and Lela Swift also worked on the series as producer and director.

• Nancy Barrett originally tried out for the part of Victoria Winters, but the role went to Alexandra Moltke instead. While still casting for the series, Barrett was invited back to try out for Carolyn Stoddard, a role that many agreed was better suited for her.
