William "Billy" Koenig is a fictional government agent featured on the ABC television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is part of the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was played by actor Patton Oswalt and first appeared in the season one episode, "Beginning of the End".
Biography[]
Billy Koenig is one member of a family of triplets, as well as other siblings - several of whom became agents of the S.H.I.E.L.D. spy organization. Agent Koenig was stationed at a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility known as the Playground. He worked as the administrator of the site during the Hydra uprising and was one of many who remained devoutly loyal to S.H.I.E.L.D. After Hydra leader John Garrett was killed, agents Phil Coulson and his team sought sanctuary at The Playground. Billy welcomed them with open arms. Koenig's work also involved several new members of Coulson's team, such as Lance Hunter, Bobbi Morse, and Antoine Triplett. It was around this time, that Billy's brother, Eric Koenig, was murdered by rogue S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Grant Ward.

- The character of Billy Koenig was created by director David Straiton and writers Maurissa Tancharoen and Jed Whedon.
- Billy Koenig is exclusive to the continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His closest comic book counterpart is Eric Koenig (represented as Billy's late brother in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), who was a U.S. army soldier during World War II who served in the Howling Commandos.
- All of the male Koenig siblings shown on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. were played by actor/comedian Patton Oswalt.
- Referred to brother Sam Koenig as "the shorter one" even though they were identical and played by the same actor.
